Restaurant New Food Trends

The restaurant industry nowadays is highly competitive. Innovation reigns as today’s consumers are increasingly interested in global flavors and always on the hunt to seek out a different kind of restaurant. As a restaurant owner , it’s always good to be in the know about the latest trends that are taking over the market.
We all know the saying “You are what you eat” and in this modern age, we are lucky to have lived in an era where a new restaurant trend has emerged and has allowed us to put our own character into what we’re eating – We’re talking about DIY, Make-your-own, Choose-your-own-ingredients type of restaurants.
These restaurants have had huge success. From burritos, to pizzas, to salads, crepes, sushi rolls, ice cream and yogurt. I’m sure the list will go on and on as we discover new twists and ideas about this concept . It’s not surprising how this trend has gained popularity. This interesting and casual setup allows customers to satisfy all kinds of craving as it gives you a variety of options, novelty and value for your money. It has a significant number of patrons and a fairly huge share of sales in the food industry and it’s really not hard to explain.Who wouldn’t want food customized to their own liking?
Gone are the days when you’d have to take time to tell the waiter what you want and don’t want on your plate. The control is yours and the possibilities are endless. This not only gives us the upper hand in choosing what we want in our food but also gives opportunity to people with restricted diet (due to illnesses or allergies) to make sure that everything on their plate is good for them and to enjoy food as normal people do. Serious foodies are also drawn to this new trend as this allows them to experiment on new tastes, fusion of flavors and discoveries.
In Asia, the most popular by far is the “Shabu-Shabu” where you are to choose from a wide range of fresh ingredients – thin slices of meat, seafood , dimsum, veggies – and cook them on a smokeless grill on your table or submerge them in a hot pot of your choice of broth. Fresh, quick, hot, and savory.
In America, make your own pizza , burrito, sushi rolls, yogurt and liquid nitrogen ice creams are flourishing. Pizza is probably one of the most popular foods to go but it is also one of the most enjoyable to customize because you can put almost anything on it. Some prefer a mix of sweet and spicy toppings, others want their pizza to be more tangy and cheesy and some would want to skip the meat and just have veggies and cheese. Even the pizza sauce has variety. You can choose from a pesto base, tomato sauce, white cheese or truffle. Burritos, on the other hand, have gained popularity because it is a well-balanced meal in itself (having protein, starch and fiber in one meal) and having to choose what you want to put in it only makes you want it more. Sushi rolls are the most popularJapanese food by far. It is very artsy the way that there can be a lot of colors and flavors inside just one sushi roll but there can also be some that are very minimalistic and just has 1 or 2 ingredients in it. Having the chance to make your own concoction is always exciting and fun! Yogurts and Liquid nitrogen ice cream shops have now also jumped into the DIY trend and it’s surprising to see that not only kids want to take a shot at this but adults as well. Some fairly new franchises include – Make your own burger , Make your own sauce for Hong-Kong Style Fried noodles and Make your own fruit shake. As I’ve said earlier, the possibilities are endless. The only restriction is your own imagination. What food do you think is going to be next in this DIY craze? Tell us about it!
