FRESH FOOD PRODUCTS CREATED IN UNIVERSITIES, ON DISPLAY AT A SPECIAL FAIR

Fresh food products resulted from various studies in Japanese Universities were the stars of a special fair in Tokyo’s commercial district.
Takashimaya Shinjuku Store, a leading department store in Tokyo’s busy commercial district, held a fair displaying food products produced by laboratories at 35 universities.
The event took place in June and the visitors showed growing interest in the fruit and vegetables that resulted from the research held on academic grounds, Kyodo reports.
One of the items on display was a fresh leaf lettuce. The vegetable was developed by the Faculty of Bioresource Sciences at Akita Prefectural University and its low potassium level makes it great for people who suffer from kidney disease.
Students of Tokyo Kasei University displayed products resulted from their studies such as sweets safe for children allergic to wheat, eggs and dairy products. The fair was organized by nonprofit organization Project 88.
Aside from the event’s academic value, it also comes as a response to the higher demand in fresh and healthy food that people from all around the world show.
