Ahlstrom introduces sustainable food packaging mould

Finland-based packaging materials manufacturer Ahlstrom has introduced the Ahlstrom NatureMold, a sustainable moulding material for food packaging.
The company claims that the new product offers heat resistance of up to 220°C, easy release, high wet strength, and better grease resistance. Benefits also include better branding and differentiation, and the possibility to watermark or dye the packaging material using hot-food-contact-approved colours.
The release coating has been approved for direct food contact, which is helpful in avoiding the need for additional cooking oils during the packaging process.
The NatureMold is also made from renewable resources, containing biodegradable vegetable parchment and pulp certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Ahlstrom food executive vice president Omar Hoek said that the Ahlstrom NatureMold product line's grease resistance and easy release features make it perform better than standard trays or moulds.
"The coloring and watermark options allow significant brand differentiation. Its sustainability credentials are compelling, as all the materials are from renewable sources as well as biodegradable," Hoek added.
Ahlstrom's food business supplies food packaging products globally and has seven production sites in four countries.
