Packaging operation earns an “A” for food safety

A packaging company specializing in meat, seafood and produce has attained an “A” for food safety from a global standards organization.

Robert Mann Packaging’s manufacturing plant has been awarded the top rating from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) according to its Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials. The company constructs fiberboard containers for fresh fruit, meat, seafood and floral companies out of its 333,000-sq.-ft. facility.

Robert Mann Packaging attained the Global Standard in April of 2012. In the 18 months since, the firm initiated a continuous-improvement program to help improve its standing with the BRC.

“Our customers can now check off on their own food safety programs and have the confidence that their packaging partner has met the highest standards in the industry,” said Robert Mann Packaging president Steven Carroll.

The packaging manufacturing facility, located in Salinas, California, includes an array of carton production equipment, including a five-color die-cutter unit, a four-color flexo-folder-gluer, two three-color flexo presses, a two-color press and other finishing equipment. It also offers four acres of outdoor storage for its customers’ use.

According to the BRC, its Global Standards program meets or exceeds the specification of the Global Food Safety Initiative. They are used by suppliers and global retailers to demonstrate quality, safety, and consumer protection.
