Farmers increase activities to improve greenhouse gas mitigation

The “Defra Farm practices survey 2012: England greenhouse gas mitigation practices” has found that farmers are increasing activities to improve greenhouse gas mitigation. For example, the number of farmers using a Nutrient Management Plan to balance their use of fertilizers and manure with environmental and regulatory guidelines has increased from 46% in 2006 to 68% in 2012. The report also covers anaerobic digestion,  under-drainage, fertiliser spreaders, manure and slurry storage, farm health planning and biosecurity,  grassland,  and cattle and sheep feeding regimes and breeding practices.
A summary of the survey is available on the Farming Futures website:http://www.farmingfutures.org.uk/blog/farm-greenhouse-gas-mitigation
